The So Called  Street Children  Orphanage is Going to be Abolished

30.08.04 Media News. Batumi. The only functioning orphanage of Batumi has been abolished according to the decision made by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of  Autonomous Republic of Adjaria. The leadership of the Center remains at the personnel’s disposal, as for ordinal employees, they have been dismissed.

In 1936, Batumi center was established for under age children - homeless and  those who are in conflict with law. The last repairs took place in 2002, supported by  Maguli Gogitidze –deceased wife of the former leader of Adjaria, Aslan Abashidze.

Workers of the center and experts working on the problems of homeless children express a protest against the decision made by the Ministry of  Internal Affairs of Adjaria. They state, that after the abolition of the center, one of the most painful issues for the public – the problem of street children will become more vulnerable. Tens of  workers of the Center applied for help to president Saakashvili and Irakli Okruashvili, the Interior Minister of Georgia.

The matter is that only two such centers were functioning in Georgia. After canceling the Center in Batumi, the issue of functioning Tbilisi Center is will be discussed.
