Compulsory Military Service of One Year

Tbilisi. 26.10.04. Media News. The Georgian Parliament has confirmed the draft law on “Compulsory Military Service” at the third hearing.
The terms enshrined in the new law of compulsory military service determine a duration of one year.

Nika Rurua, deputy chairman of the Parliamentary committee for defense and security, clarified that the new law refers to those persons being conscripted late in autumn this year.

In addition to that, a  new draft law has been prepared which will cancel military chairs at Universities.

According to Nika Rurua, these military chairs are a source of corruption and do not pürovide students with complete knowledge about the military service. Henceforth, students will serve a military service after graduating the universities.
