Public Defender Mostly Dealing With Complaints Against Police

Tbilisi.01.11.04.Media-News. Following the new staffing of the public defender’s office complaints of people, whose rights have been violated, have increased.

According to Bacho Akhalaia, Deputy Public Defender, they are mainly addressed for help by people, whose rights have been violated by the police.
“We receive such complaints, which are not quite our competence, but people think that we should defend their rights in this regard as well. The complaints are mainly about violations in the course of investigation. Unfortunately, we do not have the right to intervene in investigations in this respect,” – states Bacho Akhalaia.

“You may be surprised but despite a number of people, who have been dismissed we only have two complaints on the issue. So, the main problems are still connected with law enforcement” – says the Deputy Public Defender.
