“High Ranking Officials Have Personal Interest in the Hotels “Iveria” and “Adjara”

Tbilisi.03.11.04.Media News. Ucha Nanuashvili, Executive Director of Human Rights Information and Documentation Centre stated that high ranking officials of the Georgian government have personal interests in the hotels “Iveria” and “Adjara”, which served as a motor for the decision that IDPs should leave the hotels.

“After we took an interest in the facts of violation of IDPS’ rights, pressure has been exercised on us from the representatives of Zurab Zhvania, the Prime Minister”- stated Ucha Nanuashvili at a press conference held on November 3, 2004.

According to Giorgi Tumanishvili (Junior), a lawyer of Human Rights Information and Documentation Centre, some articles of the contract,  which Teimuraz Ugulava, General Director of the hotel concluded with the IDPs give rise to suspicion.  Namely, according to one of the articles of the contract the administration takes the obligation to compensate citizens (7000 USD) from November 1, 2004 onwards. This means that the administration can pay this money at any time, even 50 years after November 1.  According to Article 3.1. of the contract if the contract is not concluded between the IDPs living in the hotel and the administration till October 31, then the latter retains the right to abolish the contract.
