Government Preparing to Rig Elections

Tbilisi.14.11.04.Media News. According to Davit Berdzenishvili, MP and leader of the Republican Party, the fact that government takes into consideration the professionalism of the members while creating both the Central Election Commission and the specialised Adjara Election Commission is a fake; he concludes that the country is de facto under one-party rule.

Berdzenishvili stated that the government managed to replace Guguli Duidze, Deputy Chairperson of the Adjara Election Commission and a member of the Republican Party with Tamaz Sharmanishvili, a member of the National Movement, who had been the Head of the Law Department of the Supreme Election Commission of Adjara.

“His work for the National Movement has been appreciated and that’s why he has been appointed to the position of Deputy Chairman of the Election Commission. The dismissal of Guguli Duidze from the position cannot formally be appealed. At present seven out of nine members of the Election Commission are representatives of the government and the remaining two – of the Republican Party. Irakli Fagava, Chairman of the Commission is a relative of Levan Varshalomidze, Presidential Representative in Adjara” – states Davit Berdzenishvli. He continued to say: “The Adjara Election Commission seems to be modelled on Aslan Abashidze’s time. The government takes measures in advance to rig the next elections”.
