Guram Sharadze Arrested for Hooliganism

Media News. Guram Sharadze, former Member of Parliament, has been arrested by Patrolling Police for hooliganism.

On November 25, Guram Sharadze tore down posters of Rafael Oldinski, a Polish photographer and US citizen, whose works were exhibited at the National Library Hall.

Guram Sharadze found the exhibition so “Porno-Satanic” that he demanded the removal of the posters. However, as his demand had been ignored he tore down several posters by himself.

Afterwards, George Gabashvili, Minister of Culture and Sport accompanied by Gia Bughadze, head of the Academy of Arts arrived at the scene.

Mr. Sharadze was taken to the police of Mtatsminda-Krtsanisi region, where his followers gathered half an hour later.
Members of “the Right Opposition – Industrialists, the News” label the detention of Guram Sharadze a political act.

In an interview with “Media News” Konstantine Guntsadze, member of “the Right Opposition” stated that some political motives are observed regarding Guram Sharadze’s detention. According to Guntsadze, Religious and Nationalistic circles are especially dissatisfied with the current situation. This being a rather big portion of the country’s electorate, it is clear that the government fears some political forces may use such incidents to their advantage. Guntsadze concludes that the authorities try to avoid this and put forward one of the most discredited persons. Earlier at a congress on November 22, President Saakashvili stressed Guram Sharadze’s personality.

This way, Guram Sharadze won’t become the leader of these circles given his reputational loss. The government will try to disperse this part of the electorate.

Guntsadze considers it obscure that only journalists of the TV Company Rusatvi-2 had appeared during the incident at the National Library.

“Several events coincide with each other. I think, that everything is done, so that the authorities manage to win over the religious and nationalistic electorate, - Guntsadze has stated.
