The Court has Partly Satisfied the Action of the Widow of Murdered Journalist

Media-News. The Chamber of appeal of the Supreme Court of Georgia has partly satisfied the action of Khatuna Chkhaidze, the widow of Giorgi Sanaia, the Anchorman murdered in 2001, according to which the claimant demanded the investigation of the criminal case again as well as the abolishment of motive of assassination.

The Supreme Court has not returned the case to the new investigation, though it has abolished the motive of murder.

According to the judge, in case of the new circumstances discovered the Prosecution Office can refer to the Court of Cassation again.

„My action was partly satisfied and the decision of the Regional Court was abolished, as the Supreme Court decided that the motive is not established, which means, that it might be assassination and the court pointed to the prosecution office to work on this issue,”- stated Khatuna Chkhaidze, the widow of Sanaia.

The advocate of Giorgi Khurtsilava, the convict in murder of Giorgi Sanaia, demanded commutation of thirteen years imprisonments because he considers that the crime was committed by the convict at the temporary insanity. The court did not satisfy this demand.

According to the David Dadiani, the advocate of khurtsilava, the Court made a political decision.

For the information: On 2004 of June Grigol Khurtsilava, the convict for murder of Giorgi Sanaia, was sentenced to 13 years imprisonment. Later on 30 of July the Court didn’t change the sentence and only specified the motive of murder. Regional Court considered the motive of murder to be the attempt of sexual violence of the convict.
