Law Enforcers Severely Beat an Ossetian Journalist

Tbilisi.04.01.05. Media News. On December 30, 2004 the representatives of the law enforcement bodies of the Self-proclaimed Republic of South Ossetia severely beat a journalist Alan Parastaev, Director of NGO “Center for Humanistic Research and Initiatives” operating in Tskhinvali.

He has been taken to Tskhinvali hospital with the diagnosis of concussion of the brain and at present he is unconscious in reanimation of the hospital.

According to the colleagues of Parastaev he was demanding from Ossetial law enforcers to let humanitarian stuff go through Ossetia to the Georgian villages.

Ana Chochieva, Parastaev’s wife states that his brain has been injured but in the hospital there is no needed equipment which would enable for setting a precise diagnosis. It is also impossible to take him to Vladikavkaz as doctors do not allow for transporting him anywhere.

Representatives of the Ossetian Non Governmental Organizations demand urgent investigation of the beating and punishment of the criminal.

Robert Guliev, Minister of the Interior of the Self-proclaimed Republic of South Ossetia has already made an order to launch investigation on the fact.
