A Hunger Strike by IDPs Living in the Hotel Adjara

Tbilisi, 02.08.05. Nine families of IDPs living in the Adjara Hotel began a hunger strike in the hotel’s entrance hall. They stated that they will not stop the protest until the commission dealing with IDP evictions provides them with residences.

First, however, the families demand that their living conditions at the hotel be improved  According to the protesters, the investor of the hotel cut off the gas, electricity and water supplies.

Protesters demand a meeting with Eter Astamirova, the Minister of Refugees and Placement, to resolve their problems.  According to Astamirova, the ministry does not have available housing to provide and it is the city municipality which has this housing responsibility.
