Restrictions for Journalists in the State Chancellery

Tbilisi.02.21.05.Media News. Certain restrictions for journalists have been established in the State Chancellery. According to the new rules the press will be prohibited to meet the members of the government on the first floor at the elevators. They will only be allowed to enter the third floor with video cameras. Restrictions regarding use of elevators will also be made.

Despite the fact the government states that media will have no problems in receiving information in the State Chancellery. According to the president’s instruction Zurab Nogaideli, Prime Minister held a meeting with journalists on February 21 and declared that he himself is interested that the public gets all the information about the work of the government. He promises complete transparency and operative information to the media.

The president states that providing information in the State Chancellery will be the same as in civilized countries. “The press will have no restrictions with the administration. It will be like in America, France and Germany. I think there is nothing unacceptable in it.” – said Saakashvili.

Press Speakers will provide the press with information about the meetings held by the President and Prime Minister. In emergency situations high ranking officials will make statements themselves.
