European Union Discusses with Georgia Launching of Negotiations on Action Plan

Tbilisi.03.10.05.Media News. The second session of the Integration into Europe Committee was held in the State Chancellery. Zurab Nogaideli, Prime Minister is the head of the Committee.

EU Rule of Law Mission (EUJUST THEMIS) started work in Georgia in June 3 and has been functioning in the context of „European Security and Defense Policy“.

Sylvia Panz, head of the Mission, spoke about the activity of the Mission in Georgia at the session of the Committee.

The objective of the Rule of Law Mission is to support the Georgian government in the reformation of Law enforcement bodies.

Highly skilled European experts are involved in the Mission. The cooperation of this organization with the Georgian government will result in the creation of an overall strategy for the reform of the system of Criminal Law. With this purpose and based on the President’s order, a working group has been established; Kote Kemularia, Minister of Justice will be the head of the group.

At the session Giorgi Baramidze, State Minister for Euro-Atlantic Integration spoke about the priorities of the Action Plan within the framework of the European Neighbourhood Policy.

On March 23, the Council of the European Union will discuss the issue of launching negotiations with Georgia on the Action Plan. Setting of the above-mentioned priorities must be finished before the start of the negotiations in order to enable the Georgian side to make use of the European Neighbourhood Policy with maximum efficiency.
