300 Georgian Soldiers to Leave for Iraq Tomorrow

Tbilisi19.05.05. Media News.  A departure ceremony will be held at the Vaziani military base for the 11th Light Infantry Battalion from the First Infantry Brigade on 20th of May.

The 11th Light Infantry Battalion, led by Capt. Shavlego Tabatadze, consists of 300 men. It will replace the Georgian commando battalion which is currently in Iraq, and serve on a peacekeeping mission in Baquba and its surrounding territories.

The battalion's main duties will include staffing checkpoints, and patrolling and defending military and other important facilities.

The peacekeeping contingent is scheduled to return to Georgia in six months.
