Kyrgyz Trafficking Victim Sent Home
Tbilisi.29.06.05. MediaNews. A citizen of Kyrgyzstan sent a letter to the Public Defender of Georgia on ___ May describing her situation wherein she came to Georgia to get a job but became, instead, a victim of trafficking and engaged in prostitution for two years under the control of a man identified only as David.
The woman managed to run away from her captor but was unable to return home due to a lack of money.
Baia Romelashvili, the Chairman of Women’s Rights Defence Centre of the Public Defender’s Office, made a request to the Ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan and the Kyrgyz Consulate in Moscow and assisted the victim in obtaining temporary travel documents.
The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) of Georgia rendered financial assistance to the woman who was recently able to return to Kyrgyzstan.
