New Registration of Chechen Refugees is Starting

Tbilisi.30.08.05.Media News. New registration of Chechen refugees will start on September 1 and last till September 10.

The Ministry of Refugees and Resettlement states that the registration of Chechen refugees will be performed by the staff of the Ministry and implemented with the financial and technical support of the UNHCR.

According to 2004 data, 2600 Chechen refugees were fixed in Georgia, with only ten of them living in Tbilisi and all the others in the Pankisi Gorge.
This year’s registration will be organized in the administrative centre of the region of Akhmeta. Special buses will transport the refugees from their villages in the Pankisi Gorge to the place of registration .The whole procedure shall be overlooked by the Minister of Refugees and Resettlement, Eter Astemirova, herself.
