Invalids Protest in the Ministry of Justice

16/09/05 “GHN”- Members of the Georgian Society of the Blind went on hunger strike during a protest held in the Ministry of Justice. They demanded to make changes to the law concerning the Georgian Society of the Blind and to appoint Abesalom Jikia as its president.

The representatives of the Ministry of Justice say that solving the problems of the society is not within their power. After revising the documents received from the State Registration and License Department and from the court, the case shall be considered.

According to the High Court of Georgia, the issues raised by the “Society of the Blind” are still under revision by the court. According to Georgian legislation, the cases that are still in the court cannot be solved by other Ministries. Kajaia’s demand to change the law was not considered by the court.

The deputy of the Ministry of Justice sent an official letter to the “Society of the Blind” explaining these circumstances and once more stated that solving these problems was not in their power.
