French Associations for the Rights of Georgian Refugees

French Associations for the Rights of Georgian Refugees

15/09/05, “GHN”- French associations “Refugee Forum” and “France – the country of Liberty” has defended the rights of Georgian refugees.

According to the French news-paper “Liberation”, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nicola Sarkozi, ordered prefects in Paris to deport 25 thousand illegal foreigners from France.

Since a few months, immigrants from Georgia together with the citizens of 11 other countries can no longer rely on their refugee status. The French government argues that the human rights situation in these countries has improved notably. French associations on the other hand, assure that the democratic processes in Georgia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, India and Mali are not stable.

“Refugee Forum” and “France – the country of Liberty” have asked their government to remove 12 countries from the list, which holds those states the citizens of which will not be provided with a refugee status. It is feasible that the request made by the French associations will be shoved aside.

In 2005 12 849 illegal foreigners were deported from France.
