Fishers Hold Protest in front of State Chancellery

08/11/05, “Media News” – Fishers from Poti organized a protest in front of the State Chancellery building in Tbilisi. They oppose a decision made by the Ministry of Environment. According to the new law project, fishery license will be issued by means of auction. Fishers say that the price of the licenses will be much higher.

“We demand justice from the President. We are sure he will understand if he hears us. That is why we have organized the meeting in front of the State Chancellery. We demand a reduction in the price of the license,” – said the protesters.

According to representatives of the PR Department of the Ministry of Environment, issuing the licenses in this new way will help the development of Georgian business.

“According to the rules, the license is only issued to Georgians and fish caught in the Black Sea may only be sold on Georgian territory. I suppose that Turkish sellers stand behind the protesters”- said the public relations manager.
