Students Living in Dormitory Organize Protest Action

Tbilisi.11.11.05.Media News. Students living in the dormitory of the Tbilisi State University have organized a protest action.

University administration demanded the departure of 84 students from the dormitory in order to have the building refurbished. The students do not intend to leave their rooms and demand a meeting with the University’s rector Rusudan Lortkipanidze.

“We have requested the rector of the University to allocate some time for us so that we could explain our situation. We pay only 20 lari per month and we will not be able to find any apartment for this amount. Rususdan Lortkipanidze should explain precisely what they are going to do with us”- the students state.

Some believe that a company or private person is going to buy the dormitory building. The University’s administration denies this and says that they are asking the students to leave the building for a while until the repair works are completed.

The rector of the University did not attend the action.
