Protest Action held by Pensioners of Law-enforcement Bodies

Tbilisi.30.11.05.MediaNews. Pensioners of law-enforcement bodies organized a protest action in front of the Parliament building.

They protested against proposed amendments in the Pension Code which do not take the length of service into consideration when calculating benefits.

The Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Affairs offered the draft amendments to the Parliament two weeks ago. The legislative body has not approved the amendments yet. Gigi Tsereteli, the head of the Healthcare Committee of the Parliament, met the protesting pensioners two weeks ago and promised to take account of their opinions.

In the words of the demonstrators, they will continue to gather in front of the Parliament building to show their disdain against the mentioned legislative initiative. At this stage, pensions for law-enforcers range from 85 to 250 Gel.
