Merchants of Batumi Department Store Refuse to Clear the Building

04.12.2005, “Media News” – Ex-merchants of the Batumi Central Department Store have refused to leave the building.

Batumian businessman Anzor Kikodze bought the building at an auction for 200 thousand dollars. He demands the department store to be cleared and has offered alternative spaces for merchants in the city’s outskirts. The ex-merchants refuse this offer and have slept in the store for more than a month.
Kikodze’s owned Company “Elite XXI” has already started rebuilding the store. While delivering the materials, the windows of the store were broken.

Merchants say that broken windows mean nothing to them and they will not leave the building, until the Government of Adjara provides them with some support.
