The Association of Blind People Hold Demonstration in Front of Tbilisi Municipality Building

05.12.2005, “Media News” – The Association of the Blind has held a protest in front of the Tbilisi Municipality building, demanding the right of free travel in the Metro.

Participants in the protest accused the Tbilisi Municipality of inattentiveness and breach of promise.

According to the head of the association Revaz Maisuradze, purchasing free travel cards is much more expensive than giving blind people the right of free entry into the metro.

“More than 2500 blind live in Tbilisi, but maximum 100 of them use the metro every day. As the free travel plastic cards cost 144 Gel, giving them the right of free entry would be more efficient,” – said Maisuradze.

The blind people also protest against cancellation of 22 Gel in their pension. They demand a meeting with Mayor Gigi Ugulava and will not stop the protest, until Ugulava satisfies their demands.
