Zugdidian Gina Kartozia Demands Defending Her Daughter’s Rights

According to the official version, the investigation process into the kidnapping of 12 year-old Mariam Gvaramia in Zugdidi on the 24th of November ended because of lack of evidence. However, Gina Kartozia’s mother accuses the staff of the Zugdidian Department of Constitutional Security and George Oniani, member of the Public Defender’s Office of illegal behavior. “It is known to me that the testimonies of the witnesses were modified. For getting the results they wanted, officers of the department kidnapped another Zugdidian - Mamuka Shalamberidze. They even pressured my child and tried to change her testimony. Certainly, the child can recognize all the three kidnappers aside from the driver, who wore a mask. After a telephone talk with the eyewitnesses, Oniani said that he did not find any facts of pressure on the investigation process. He was receiving instructions all the time from Bacho Akhalaia, brother of David Akhalaia, head of the department of Constitutional Security and clearly, he did not want to make this case public,” – says Gina Kartozia and asks International Organizations to help in the investigation process and to defend her daughter’s rights.
