 Public Defender Considers Gocha Partsuria’s Beating as Case of Torture

Tbilisi 17.01.06 Medianews. The Public defender visited prisoner Gocha Patsuria who was abused and severely beaten in Tbilisi Jail N.1

According to the public defender’s press service, Gocha was imprisoned in the Ksani Jail (for prisoners with tuberculosis) where he had an argument with the jail administration. Gocha Patsuria says that on January 14, when he was meeting his mother and sister in the meeting room, where he was beaten severely by members of the Special Forces, the assistant of the head of the tbc-zone and execution department. Furthermore, he notes that his mother was also physically assaulted.

After the incident, he was placed in the jail room of the Ksani Colony, where the head of the colony and his assistant beat him again.

Patsuria’s mother and sister confirm the fact in the conversation with the Public Defender’s representatives.
 
The Public Defender himself gave the Chairperson of the Executive Department of the Ministry of Justice a strong recommendation to place Gocha Patsuria in the medical institution for prisoners.

Sozar Subari also recommended Irakli Kldiashvili, the head of National Bureau of Court Expertise of the Ministry of Justice, to put the prisoner under expertise for the physical injuries sustained.

According to the public defender, severe treatment and torture of the prisoner took place. Thus, he applied to the Chief Prosecutor to study the case.
