IDPs Afraid of History Repeating

IDPs Afraid of History Repeating

About 650 internally displaced families are living in hotels “Meskheti” and “Medea” in Batumi. They have to leave these buildings within three months. Kazakh businessmen are paying $7 thousand to each family.

Refugees say that with this money they cannot buy an apartment. “With this money we cannot buy living space. Apartments are too expensive. If we leave this building, we will find ourselves on the street again as we did twelve years ago in Sokhumi,” - say the refugees.

Meetings took place in front of the hotels. If the amount of money is not increased, they plan more demonstrations and a hunger strike. Some refugees declared to give up Georgian citizenship.
