The Georgian Young Lawyers Association demand Investigation of High-Ranking Officials in the Ministry of Internal Affairs

The Georgian Young Lawyers Association (GYLA) is concerned that the investigation of the Girgvliani murder case will not be conducted objectively. The murdered man, Sandro Girgvliani was on the staff of “The United Georgian Bank”. “Such things should not happen in a country, which is supposed to be democratic. The officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs should also be investigated. We highly doubt that the investigation will be conducted objectively and we demand that the case be transferred to the General Prosecutor’s Office,” declared the Head of GYLA, Anna Dolidze.

The mother of the murdered man, Irina Enukidze, insists on finding out all the available information about the crime, including questioning high-rank officials from the Ministry, adding: “If this process is disrupted by their positions, they can resign.”

On the night of the 27th of January, when Gvirgvilia was killed, he was seen in Café “Chardin”.  Also in the café were the wife of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Tako Salakaia, the head of the press-centre of the Ministry, Guram Donadze, the Chief of the Interior Ministry’s Department of Constitutional Security, Data Akhalaia, head of General Inspection Kalandadze and somebody called Oleg.

According to Anna Dolidze, the investigation should also question these high-ranking officials as they might have been involved with the crime. GYLA declares that none of the eye-witnesses have been properly questioned yet.
