The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Demands Reaction from the International Organizations

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Demands Reaction from the International Organizations

“Arresting the member of student’s organization “Art Salon” and her accompanies shows that Human Rights and basic freedom are systematically violated in de-facto Republic of Abkhazia”, is said in the statement, published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia calls upon the UN, OSCE and the UN Secretary General’s Group of Georgia’s Friends to duly appraise this act and adopt measures for the release of the detainees, as well as to heighten efforts aimed, in line with a whole set of the UN Security Council’s resolutions, at setting up a Gali branch of the UN/OSCE Human Rights Office of Sukhumi and putting into action a UN civilian police component in the Gali district.

It is also said in the announcement that on the 2nd of March at the administrative border between the Gali and Ochamchire districts in Abkhazia, Georgia, officers of the so-called security service of the Abkhazian separatist government detained without any reason Tea Sharia, a member of the student organization ‘Art Salon’ and two accompanying men Tariel Sokhadze and Teimuraz Eliava touring Abkhazia with the goal of filming one of the most prominent monuments of Georgian architecture – Mokvi Church. All the three detainees were beaten brutally and taken into custody of the security service in Sukhumi.

The detainees are in need of immediate medical aid. However, representatives of the UN Observer Mission and doctors have been barred access to them by the Abkhazian separatist administration.

This fact unveils yet again the de facto government’s systematic and flagrant violation of the universally recognized human rights and freedoms in Abkhazia, Georgia.
