Ombudsman Criticizes Activities of the Police

Tbilisi, 09.03.2006, “Media News” – The Ombudsman of Georgia, Sozar Subari, accuses the Department for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of illegally raiding transport, moving to and from Poti. “The officers checked every car without any documentation. After interviewing the officers, we found out, that many of them did not even have Police IDs. This behaviour is like that committed by criminal bands”, declared Sozar Subari at the press-conference.

The Ombudsman showed pictures, taken in Poti, to journalists. Subari demands an investigation of the fact from the General Inspection and calls for measures to be adopted to ensure a fair investigation.
