Ombudsman’s Office Pleads with General Prosecutor over Beaten Prisoner Case

Tbilisi, 12.04.06, ‘Media News’ – Representatives of the Ombudsman’s office visited prisoner Irakli Dangadze in Kutaisi Jail #2. The prisoner was beaten by the guards of the prison a month ago. According to the inmate, the Director of the prison, Gocha Megrelishvili and his deputy Irakli Kuchukhidze were both involved in the incident.

Dangadze told the representatives of the Ombudsman’s Office details of how the inmates were beaten.

Under ‘The Law Regarding the Ombudsman of Georgia’, the Head of the Investigation and Monitoring Department of the Public Defender of Georgia, Giga Giorgadze, officially demanded that Tamar Tomashvili, head of Human Rights Department of the General Prosecutor’s Office investigates the case and gives the proper response.

News
