Training Held on Administration of Juvenile Justice

The Human Rights Information and Documentation Centre, in cooperation with UNICEF held a training-course on the Administration of Juvenile Justice for journalists. The training aimed to support juvenile justice reform in Georgia. The trainers were Nino Togonidze and Giorgi Apriashvili, both lawyers with the Human Rights Information and Documentation Center and Giga Giorgadze, the Head of the Investigation and Monitoring Department at the Public Defender’s Office.
 
The following topics were discussed during the training: concepts of juvenile justice, international documents concerning the status of juveniles, the prevention of juvenile delinquency and the model of a Juvenile Court in Georgia.

According to trainer Nino Togonidze, the target group of the project varies. The different target groups are: lawyers, prosecutors, judges, the administration of Juvenile Centres and the detainees there, and the administration of the Social Adaptation Centre for children.

Jurisdiction and Physiological Consultation Centres within the Social Adaptation Center have been established within the framework of the project. A lawyer and physiologist with the Human Rights Information and Documentation Center work there. Prisoners at the Juvenile Detention Centre within the Ministry of Justice are being taught English and Computer Skills.
