Lawyer Eka Beselia Demands Those Responsible for Slanderous Statements Be Punished

Tbilisi, 07.06.06 – ‘Media News’ – The lawyer of Mikheil Svanidze, suspected of murdering Seko Khubuliani, demands the punishment of people who made slanderous announcements accusing Mikheil Svanadze of being a criminal.

At a press conference, held today, Eka Beselia talked about her meeting with the head of the Tbilisi Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs - Malkhaz Bokhua. “Malkhaz Bokhua said, that Mikheil Svanadze is not accused of being a criminal and that he does not know who spread this information. This is a violation of his constitutional rights and presumption of guilt. We declare that Seko Khubuliani’s murder has not been investigated. We are afraid that the police will start to create fake evidence against Svanadze now, to support this premature judgement”, said Eka Beselia.

According to Beselia, Svanadze’s family might be under threat. Svanadze’s mother is afraid that police officers or family members of the murdered person will attack him.

The lawyer demands the investigation officially deny information about the involvement of Svanadze in the crime. Beselia also insists that the people who are responsible for spreading slanderous information about Svanadze be found.
