Refugees Living in Batumi Forced to Leave Hotels

Tbilisi, 28.06.06, ‘Media News’ – Officers of the Criminal Police entered ‘Hotel Meskheti’ in Batumi, demanding that IDPs leave the building. The local government will accommodate the IDPs from Abkhazia in Makhinjauri, in ‘Hotel ‘Mziuri’.

The deadline from the Kazakh investor for emptying the hotel ended today. The IDPs were informed about the deadlines, although they refused to leave the hotel and move to new locations. They also refused to take the 7 thousand dollars offered to them by an investor as compensation.

“We are in an information vacuum as we do not have either electricity or TV sets. None of the representatives of the government met with us”, say the IPDs.
