Lawyers of Sukhan Molashvili Address the European Court in Strasbourg

Tbilisi, 02.07.06, ‘Media News’ – Decision of leaving the former head of Chamber of Control Sulkhan Molashvili in the custody, will be appealed by his lawyers in Strasbourg.

According to Ioseb Baratashvili, one of the lawyers, they will apply to European Court after the decision from the High Court officially will be handed to them.  Although this document should be given to their side at the moment of announcing the decision, it has not happened yet.

According to Baratashvili, several articles of European Convention on Human Rights were violated in all three instances. Baratashvili thinks that political discrimination is carried out against Molashvili.

Molashvili’s defenders will demand moral and material compensation and immediate release of the former head of Chamber of Control.

Sulkhan Molashvili was arrested on the 23rd of April 2004. He is accused of abusing his duties and other crimes. On the 25th of September, the Tbilisi City Court sentenced him to 9 years imprisonment. In November 2006, the Tbilisi Court of Appeal reduced the term by a year.
