Special Operation Operations Kill Yet Another Person

Tbilisi, 04.07.06, ‘Media News’ – The Public Defender of Georgia is concerned about the killing of yet another person during a so called ‘special operation’, conducted by law enforcers.

Gela Tsindeliani, aged 23, was killed during a special operation in the village of Chuberi, in the Mestia region on the 3rd July 2006. The special operation was organized to arrest Tsindeliani’s brother, Gocha, who was not in the village at that time.

Garik Chkhvimiani, a local inhabitant was arrested because he expressed his concerns about the special operation openly.

The Ombudsman calls upon those responsible for enforcing the law to investigate the case immediately. The incident is also being studied by the Public Defender’s Office.
