Valery Gelashvili Sues Tbilisi Mayor and MP Bidzina Bregadze
Tbilisi, 12.07.06, ‘Media News’ – A former MP of Georgia, Valery Gelashvili, demands moral compensation from the Tbilisi Mayor, Gigi Ugulava, and MP Bidzina Bregadze.
Tamaz Rukhadze, Gelashvili’s lawyer, has appealed to the Tbilisi City Court today. Gelashvili demands moral compensation for a speech made by the two politicians several months ago. Gigi Ugulava and Bidzina Bregadze accused Gelashvili of burning down School #84.
Valery Gelashvili asked the Minister of Education and Science to give the school building to a company owned by Gelashvili - ‘Evra’. However Kakhaber Lomaia refused to do so. After that Ugulava and Bregadze accused Gelashvili of burning down the school building.
Following this incident, Gelashvili was stripped of his duties on the 30th of March. According to Georgian legislation, an MP is not allowed to be involved in any kind of profitable business activity.
