NGOs Demand Releasing of the Members of ‘Egalitarian Institute’

Tbilisi, 21.07.06, ‘Media News’ – The appeal prepared by the lawyer Gela Nikoleishvili and NGOs, demanding the release of members of ‘Egalitarian Institute’ is ready. ‘Georgian Young Lawyers Association’, ‘Article 42 of the Constitution’, ‘Former Political Prisoners for Human Rights’ and the lawyer Gela Nikoleishvili will appeal Tbilisi Court of Appeal, insisting abolition of Judge Eka Tkeshelashvili’s decision.

Five members of ‘Egalitarian Institute’ – Irakli Kakabadze, Jaba Jishkariani, Lasha Chkhartishvili, Zurab Rtveliashvili and David Dalakishvili were detained for thirty days by the decision of the judge of Tbilisi Appeal Court Eka Tkeshelashvili. The reason of their arrest was a protest action they held in front of Court building.

According to Manana Kobakhidze, head of board of ‘Article 42 of the Constitution’, Tkeshelashvili’s decision will be appealed in the Supreme Court. “The appeal is ready, we only need signatures from arrested. If we can meet and sign the letter today, we will appeal to the Court immediately”, declared Manana Kobakhidze.
