Tbilisi, 23.07.06, ‘Media News’ – The Ombudsman Sozar Subari demands to launch investigation about the case of beating journalists of Georgian Public Broadcasting.

In the morning of July 22, the head of Patrol Police Zviad Tsagareishvili physically assaulted the journalists Lika Khurtsidze and camera man Lasha Shengelia, while they were working.

A body of a man, who probably was son in law of Tsagareishvili, was found at Varazis Khevi. The journalists were shooting place of incident, when the head of patrol police went and started assaulting them.

Zviad Tsagareishvili has already left his post.

The Ombudsman is concerned with the incident. He thinks that leaving the post is not enough and that Tsagareishvili should be punished according to the law.
