Population Demands to Seal up Illumination Posts

Population Demands to Seal up Illumination Posts

In Batumi, Tsereteli str. illumination posts put the population in danger for not having special covers. The population demands to seal up them. But the City Hall is busy by setting up the posts in other districts. Moreover, they approve themselves by having initially covered the posts and they blame the thieves for the problem. Though, the City Hall has not appealed to the police.

“The illuminated streets are really nice, but it also must be safe. As far as I remember these posts have not been covered and the electric wires are naked. Any passer-by can touch it by chance. These places are very crowded because of market,”-said one of the traders from former Tsereteli Street.

“’Drunkard’ people often sleep here, leaning against the posts. Any of them can be easily electrocuted. When a person dies, it would be no use of covering them then,”-says the second trader, Maro Dumbadze.

Local inhabitants speak about the danger of the fire and they demand to take measures against it. “A lot of rubbish and waste papers are stuck in the posts, and it can be set on fire if short circuit occurs. If they do something, though in bad quality, at least let them do it safe. Doesn’t the Government have money for these covers?”- asks Khatuna Kiladze, living in Tsereteli Street.

They state in Batumi City Hall that they have covered the posts when they were setting them up. “Stealing is spread in the city; they steal everything what is made of the iron. Even drain manhole covers have disappeared in the city. If have set up 11-mtere-high posts, why should not we have covered them with small piece of iron?!”-states Djansugh Varshalomidze, Deputy Chief of the City Hall Thrift City Service.

The City Hall has not appealed to the police for one reason: “When we applied for drain manhole covers what they did? Have they found the thief?”

Nowadays the City Hall is busy by setting up illumination posts in Melikishvili, Inasaridze and The king Pharnavaz streets. Presumably, Tsereteli Street will remain without illumination post-covers again.
