NGOs Accuse Government in Creating Brutal Conditions for Prisoners

Tbilisi, 16.08.2006, ‘Media News’ – The representatives of NGOs talked about the brutal conditions in the jails during the press conference, held yesterday.

According to them, it is more then a week that the prisoners are on hunger strike in Rustavi Jail #6. The inmates are given poor quality food and water. They also suffer from heat and do not have the right to contact the doctors.

According  to Lasha Chkhartishvili, the member of ‘Egalitarian Institute’, “so called ‘death brigades’ are killing people in the busy streets, while the inmates in the prison are dying slowly”.
