Some Leaders of Opposition Parties Might Not Participate in Elections

Tbilisi, 28.08.2006, ‘Media News’ – The representatives of opposition parties say, that president’s decision to held local elections on the 5th of October, aims to deliver opposition from the elections.

According to Koba Davitashvili, the head of Conservative Party, the president does not want Conservative and Republic Parties to participate in the elections. The deadline of applications in the Central Election Committee is 11th of October. The first parliamentary session will be held on the 12th of October. So, according to Davitashvili, neither him nor David Berdzenishvili, head of Republican Party, are able to remove the mandate of MPs and participate in the elections.

According to the legislation, MP only has the right to participate in elections, if he/she will remove MP mandate before the voting. Removal of mandate is decided by the Parliament.
