October 17, 2006

St-Petersburg. 16.10.06. Media-news. According to the famous lawyer from St-Petersburg Yuri Shmidt, Georgians, who were arrested in the city for deportation by law-enforcement bodies, are in unbearable conditions.

According to Shmidt, these unbearable conditions in police custody are unnaturally created for Georgians. The Russian policemen say in private talks, that this instruction comes from high ranking officials.

The Russian lawyer also states that there are anti sanitary conditions in the cells and several dozens of Georgians are put in carriages specially brought for them.

The lawyer explains that most of the Georgians expressed the desire to return to their homeland with their own expenses, however, Russian law-enforcement bodies do not give them possibility to do this.

Yuri Shmidt states, that all these actions are absolutely illegal and out of judicial norms.
