Former MP Brings Suit against 'Kartlis Khma'

November 28, 2006

Former MP Badri Nanetashvili sues Saba Tsitsikashvili, representative of 'Human Rights Information and Documentation Centre' in Gori. The journalist was informed about the fact from Nanetashvili's letter, which he had sent to Tamaz Mechiauri, the Chief of Tax Inspection. The letter of the former Member of the Parliament stated the following:

"We have spread information that our TV-Radio Company Trialeti went bankrupt. According to the announcement, the chief of the Tax Inspection did not deny the fact. Moreover, Mechiauri submitted the letter to the chancellery…"

"We are interested in your opinion which will assist us at the court," wrote Joni Nanetashvili, deputy and brother of Badri Nanetashvili, to Tamaz Mechiauri.

The letter also stated that the Nanetashvilis are about to bring suit to the court. The journalist himself approves that the brothers have become more active.

Saba Tsitsikashvili said: "News program of the TV Company 'Trialeti' has ceased its functioning since November, 1 2006. Besides that, there are announcements on the scrolling that the company faces danger of abolishing and they urge people from Gori District to aid them with one lari. I got in touch with Tamaz Mechiauri and asked if the company was officially announced bankrupt. Mechiauri refused and added that if 'Trialeti' had appealed them with similar urge, the letter should have been at the chancellery."

The journalist published this information in the newspaper 'Kartlis Khma' and 'Akhali Versia'. Thus, Nanetashvili was confused and asked the chief of the Tax Inspection to comment the fact.

Tamaz Mechiauri said to the 'Human Rights Centre' that 'Trialeti' really has gone into debt to the state budget. "Besides that, it is not necessary that Nanetashvili had urged us to declare them bankrupt. We can receive similar information from the court," said Tamaz Mechiauri.

Saba Tsitsikashvili considers that Nanetashvili became more active after the journalist published the article He thinks that the MP has earned enough money during his time in the parliament that he should not complain.

Employees of the 'Trialeti' started to collect money from the villages in Gori District. They have visited Karaleti, Mejvriskhevi, Zerti, etc. An incident happened in the village of Akhaldaba. Seventeen-year-old Levan Ambokadze said that his aunt could not understand the real purpose of the visit of 'Trialeti' employees. So she gave them some bread. In another village they were offered some beans.
