Former Governor of the Kareli Distirct Blames "Trialeti' for Misinformation

November 28, 2006

TV and Radio Company 'Trialeti' congratulated former deputy governor of the Kareli district, Besiki Bankanashvili, for his being re-appointed on the position. Gia Zarandia, Former Governor of the Kareli District, calls it misinformation.

In June 2006, Gia Zarandia fired both his deputies, Tina Gagnidze and Besiki Bankanashvili. Tina Gagnidze is a cousin of the former MP Badri Nanetashvili's wife, while Besiki Bankanashvili was Badri Nanetashvili's classmate. The TV Company, which congratulated Bankanashvili for his re-appointment, belonged to Badri Nanetashvili.

Since the Georgian Parliament fired Badri Nanetahsvili, his close people have also left their high positions. Later on, Bankanashvili sued the governor's decree at the court. According to the 'Trialeti', the judge found Gia Zarandia's decree unreasonable and re-appointed Bankanashvili to his position.

Gia Zarandia considers 'Trialeti's announcement funny. "Bankanashvili can not be re-appointed, because both the governor and his deputies were dismissed after local governmental elections. The judge has passed the verdict after elections. There was no governor to appoint Besik Bankanashvili as his deputy. Thus, 'Trialeti' has spread misinformation," said Gia Zarandia to "GHN".
