According to Georgian media broadcasting of Georgian TV channels will be suppressed in Abkhazia

January 8, 2007

A new mobile communications company “A-Mobile” is starting to function in unrecognized republic of Abkhazia. In order to popularize this operator Abkhazian government intends to suppress the broadcasting of Georgian TV channels and mobile communications companies “Magti” and “Geocell”.

This information is disseminated by information-analytical web portal “Gruzia Online” (Georgia Online) by drawing on news agency GHN. Equipment necessary for the functioning of the new operator has been imported from Russia.

According to Sokhumi government “Abkhazia as an independent state will decide which companies and TV channels should be allowed to function on its territory. Abkhazia has a TV broadcasting of its own and it will have its own mobile communications company as well”.
