Peasants from the Kakheti Region Cannot Get Their Money for Sold Grapes

January 22, 2007

The peasants filed a suit with the court against the board of the Senakuri Wine Factory Ltd located in Gurjaani. They decided to appeal to the court after they were deceived by Manana Elikashvili, the director of the factory. She had been deceiving them for five months.

Lawyers for the Human Rights Center’s Kakheti office prepared the suit for the victims from various villages in the Kakheti region. The suit will soon be brought to the court.

The peasants urged both the district and regional authorities for help for five months in vain. They spent nights at the gate of the factory with the hope of getting their money. Some time ago, several men entered the enterprise and seized what they came across.

The population said that the Vintage-2006 was not successful, it was a lie. They also said that the people tried to hold protest demonstrations several times but the local government and the police did not let them.
