GYLA Assists Fired Students to Appeal the University

February 15, 2007

Today, the students of the Davit Aghmashenebeli University are going to appeal against the university board.  The Georgian Young Lawyers Association (GYLA) assists them with the appeal.

GYLA is appealing the University at the Tbilisi City Court, the committee for civil cases.  With the appeal they want to protect the rights and legal interests of the fired students.

“We demand to abolish the order on firing the students from the university and allow those students to go on with their studies at corresponding faculties,” the statement of the GYLA stated.

Nearly 260 students were fired from the Tbilisi Davit Aghmashenebeli University under the Rector’s orders, dated by December 27, 2006 and January 9, 2007. Members of the GYLA consider the Rector’s decisions illegal.
