Because of Love Alika Tsulaia Is Wanted for Robbery and Illegal Restriction of the Freedom

March 9, 2007

On February 10 2007 twenty-five-year-old Alika Tsulaia from Kutaisi decided to get married. He took a taxi in Kutaisi and went to Gori. Finally, Tsulaia’s attempt to get married ended in trouble. Nowadays, on the basis of taxi driver’s testimony, he is declared wanted for robbery and illegal restriction of the freedom.

The young sweethearts met each other in the village of Tirdznisi in the Gori District. The girl refused the boy to marry him because of family problems.

The taxi driver got furious for having waiting for a long time, he throw out Tsulaia’s coat from the car and drove back to Kutaisi. Having driven 3-4 kilometers, he got into a car accident near the village of Tkhviavi and could not go on his journey.

Meanwhile, Alika Tsulaia had an argument with his sweetheart’s family members. Relatives of the girl sat Tsulaia in the car and drove him to the central high way in order to sit him in a bus going to the Western Georgia. On their way to the high-way they met the taxi driver too.

Two days later, on February 12 2007, the taxi driver appealed to the police and said that Tsulaia tried to rob him. Internal Ministry’s Gori Department is investigating the case. The driver said in his testimony that his passenger was robbing him, though the boy was asking the girl to marry him at that time.

Zaza Gigauri, lawyer for Tsulaia said that the accusation is absurd.  “My client faces 8-10-year-imprisonment for having decided to get married.”

Human Rights Center urges corresponding bodies to investigate the situation and react on it properly.
