Victim of Family Violence Demands To Return Her Child

March 22, 2007

Eighteen-year-old mother, a resident of Gurjaani, demands her former husband to return her two-year-old child. Their marriage was not registered.

Last week, the mother applied to the Human Rights Centre for help. According to her application, Khvicha K, a resident of Gurjaani, had forcibly kidnapped fifteen-year-old Sopho Z. having blackmailed her.

“While we lived together he very often assaulted me. The reason for his beating me was why I needed to be operated on when I gave a birth to our child; why I was not feeding the baby with my breast milk, etc. On June 27 2006 my husband and mother-in-law forced me to leave their house together with my child. However, I allowed my former husband to see his child. During one of similar occasions, Khvicha kidnapped my child forcibly and under threats. Since that time, he has not returned the child to me and does not let me see the baby. Besides that, their family is spreading slanderous information about me and if I try to see my child, they assault me,” Sopho Z. wrote in her application.

Lawyer for the Human Rights Center has already started to defend the interests of young mother. The lawyer will soon appeal to the Court. Besides that, criminal case might be launched against Khvicha K.

Human Rights Centre is deeply concerned regarding the situation and calls upon the corresponding bodies to prevent the family violence and react on the fact immediately.
