Subari Demands to Punish Patrol Policemen for Having Used Electroshock

March 22, 2007

The Georgian Public Defender’s Office protests the frequent usage of electroshock by the patrol policemen. Sozar Subari’s representatives, having checked the trauma journal of the Gori District Hospital, found out that Manana Shakhverdov stated at arriving at the hospital that patrol policeman had used electroshock on her.

The representative of the Public Defender said that the victim was a local outdoor trader. Patrol policeman seized her goods and banned to continue trading in the area. Despite Shalhverdovi’s urge, the patrol did not return her goods and as the witnesses said he put an electroshock on her.

According to Subari, shock can only be used to escape the attack. In this particular case, patrol policemen abused their power. The Public Defender sent the materials to the Deputy Prosecutor General, Giorgi Grigalashvili and Interim Chief of the Human Rights Department within the Prosecutor General’s Office, Archil Gorgadze.
