Representative of Public Defender: Specifics of Journalists’ Work Must be Taken into Account during Trials

March 29, 2007

Head of Monitoring and Investigation Department of Public Defender Giga Giorgadze believes that the specifics of mass media outlets’ work must be taken into account during the trials.

Giorgadze made that statement during his interview with broadcasting company “Rustavi 2” in connection with the incident that took place on March 27 when judge Maia Tetrauli expelled the journalist of TV station “Mze” from the courtroom only because she had tried to send the footage of the trial outside to her colleagues.

The other journalists who resented the judge’s decision also left the courtroom in protest.

Giga Giorgadze says journalists must observe the court rules during their work, but at the same time the court should take into consideration the specifics of journalists’ work.
