Today Trail on Georgian Young People Will Be Held in Abkhazia

April 23, 2007

The court proceeding on Koba Ghachava, Iveri Khorshia and Levan Rigvava will start today. Separatist Abkhazian Authority detained them for illegal crossing of the border and provocation.

Expert Paata Davitaia said that the young people are likely to be sentenced to eight-year-imprisonment under the Abkhazian legislation. The expert also added that within two months the negotiation on their release will start because international organizations will involve the situation.

According to Paata Davitaia’s estimation, when Georgian citizens are accused for crossing imaginary borders, “non-governmental and international organizations should take urgent measures regarding the fact.”

The detained young people were patriots from Gali who crossed the border to meet Georgian journalists on March 1. Retuning back, those Georgian patriots were fired at from Abkhazian side. One of them was wounded and he managed to go back. The other three boys were captured by Abkhazian policemen.
